Sachin Tendulkar adopts Donja village in Maharashtra's Osmanabad under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.
Cricket icon and Rajya Sabha lawmaker Sachin Tendulkar has selected Donja village in Maharashtra's Osmanabad district for development under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.
The programme, under which each member of parliament needs to choose one village from their constituency and develop it as a model village, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan, on 11 October 2014.
"We are happy that Sachin Tendulkar has picked Donja. We are sure this will inspire other villages in the region to emulate this model of development," Osmanabad Zilla Parishad CEO Anand Rayate said.
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is a rural development programme focusing on development of villages which include social and cultural development, and spread motivation among the people on social mobilisation of the village community.

Axis bank launches contactless debit cards with Visa.
Private sector lender Axis Bank, on Wednesday announced the launch of its Contactless Secure+ Debit Card for regular savings account customers, to provide access to a larger customer base with contactless technology. The card, launched on the Visa payWave platform, will enable Axis Bank's customers to conveniently 'Just Wave to Pay' at NFC-enabled point of sale (POS) terminals and also use the card as a normal debit card at any POS terminal.
World’s ‘Largest Aircraft’ The Airlander 10 Gets Off Ground.
The world’s “largest aircraft” embarked on its maiden flight on Wednesday, four days after a previous attempt was abandoned due to technical issues.
The Airlander 10 — part plane, part airship — took to the skies amid cheers and applause from crowds gathered at an airfield in Cardington, central England.
The Airlander can fly at up to 4,880 metres (6,000 feet) and reach speeds of 148 kilometres per hour (92 miles per hour), according to Hybrid Air vehicles (HAV).

Wrestler Sakshi Malik clinched a historic bronze medal on Thursday in the women’s 58 kg freestyle event at the Rio Olympics.
She became the first Indian female wrestler to win an Olympics medal after beating Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova 8-5 in a thrilling match.
Sakshi is only fourth Indian woman athlete to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleshwari, Mary Kom and Saina Nehwal.

Government Slaps $380 Million Additional Penalty On Reliance Industries.
Government has slapped an additional penalty of $380 million (around Rs 2,500 crore) on Reliance Industries and its partners for producing less than targeted natural gas from eastern offshore KG-D6 fields.
With this, the total penalty, which is in form of disallowing recovery of cost incurred, for missing the target in five fiscal years beginning April 1, 2010, now stands at a cumulative $2.76 billion.
Queen Of Ranthambore, Tigress Machhali Dead.
India's most famous tiger and perhaps the most photographed big cat in the world, Machhli died on Thursday, days after the 19 year old tigress stopped eating.
Fondly called the 'Queen of Ranthambore', Machli had been the star attraction of Ranthambore National Park for years because of her seemingly calm nature and proclivity for posing for photographs for tourists. Over the years she had several documentaries filmed on her, a postage stamp released in her honor, and recently even a dedicated Facebook page put up about her.
Machhli took her name from fish like markings on the side of her face and was also known as the 'lady of the lake' because of her fondness for water bodies. One of her battles with a 14 foot crocodile in the bed of a lake was famously captured on film.
RBL Bank IPO To Open Tomorrow on 19th August 2016.
RBL Bank will hit the capital markets tomorrow to raise over Rs 1,200 crore through an initial share-sale programme, the first IPO by a private sector lender in a decade.
The plan includes raising up to Rs 832.50 crore through the issue of fresh shares and up to Rs 380.46 crore in an offer for sale by existing shareholders.
The share sale, accounting for 10-11 per cent stake, will give the bank a valuation of over Rs 12,000 crore.
RBL Bank, formerly known as Ratnakar Bank, has fixed a price band of Rs 224-225 for the share sale. The IPO will be open for public subscription on August 19 and close on August 23.
Nasa to Launch First US Asteroid Sample Return Mission on September 8.
Nasa, the US space agency is set to launch its first mission to return a sample of an asteroid to Earth on September 8 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The mission will help scientists investigate how planets formed and how life began, as well as improve our understanding of asteroids that could impact Earth, Nasa said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft will travel to the near-Earth asteroid Bennu and bring a sample back to Earth for intensive study.
PM Narendra Modi lays foundation stone of new BJP headquarters in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with party president Amit Shah, on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office, saying the "sacrifice of generation of party workers inspires us to work".
"Sacrifice of generations of karyakartas (workers) inspire us to work," Modi said after laying the foundation stone of the new party office.
The new proposed party office building will have 70-rooms on the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, which is just 5 km from the current office on Ashoka Road.
Union Power Ministry launches portal for electronic bidding and e-reverse auction.
Union Power Ministry has launched a portal for electronic bidding and e-reverse auction of tariff-based electricity transmission projects to enhance transparency in transmission sector. The portal is launched to mark a shift from present manual auction process to electronic mode for determining the lowest bidder for the projects.
Launching the portal in New Delhi yesterday, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said that on the lines of coal sector, reverse auction is being introduced in transmission sector to facilitate better price discovery in such projects.
The Minister also launched 'TARANG' (Transmission App forReal Time Monitoring and Growth) Mobile App to monitor execution of the under construction power transmission projects.

Elaine Thompson ended any lingering doubts about who is the fastest women on the planet by completing a famous 100m and 200m sprint double – the first since Florence Griffith Joyner at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. The Jamaican held off the challenge from pre-race favourite Dafne Schippers, who loomed but never delivered, to take gold in 21.78 sec, the fastest time in the world this year.
Schippers, who had a problem with her leg going into the competition, was second in 21.88 while the American Tori Bowie was third in 22.15. Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith ran well but tied up towards the end and was fifth in 22.31.
