Uber Acquires Self-Driving Truck Startup Otto.
American multinational online transportation firm Uber Technologies Inc. announced that it has acquired 'Otto', a technology startup whose aim is to make trucks self-driving.
While announcing the move in a posting on Uber's website on Thursday, chief executive officer and co-founder Travis Kalanick said his company would put about 100 self-driving sports utility vehicles (SUVs) onto the streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as soon as this month.

Uber said Thursday it would deploy driverless cars for its ride-sharing services in Pittsburgh this month, pushing the envelope for the use of self-driving technology.
Uber said the program would begin with the cars carrying company "co-pilots," engineers and safety personnel, after testing the cars in the western Pennsylvania city without passengers for months.
Doha Bank set to open branch in Kerala.
Qatar-based Doha Bank will open a state-of-the-art branch in Kochi next week, the only branch of a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-based bank in India.
Kerela chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the branch, which will be located in the LULU International shopping Mall at Edapally, a press statement said yesterday.

Tata Power JV Cennergi Starts Operations Of 95 MW Wind Project.
Tata Power's 50:50 joint venture with Exxaro Resources in South Africa, Cennergi (Pty) announced commencement of commercial operations for its 95 MW Tsitsikamma Community wind farm project on Thursday.
"The said wind farm comprises 31 3.075 MW Vestas-make turbines," Tata Power said in a press statement today.
According to the statement, Cennergi was picked as the preferred bidder for two wind projects under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme of the South African government.
With the commissioning of the Tsitsikamma project, Cennergi's operational portfolio has increased to 229 MW as it achieved commercial operations of its 134 MW Amakhala Emoyeni wind project last month.
Tyrannosaurus Rex Fossil With Complete Skull Discovered.
In a major finding, scientists have discovered a Tyrannosaurus rex fossil, including a very complete skull, vertebrae, ribs, hips and jaw bones, which they estimate to be about 20 per cent of the dinosaur.
Researchers led by Gregory P Wilson from University of Washington (UW) in the US discovered the T rex during an expedition to the Hell Creek Formation in northern Montana - an area that is world-famous for its fossil dinosaur sites.
Two volunteers from UW's Burke Museum initially discovered pieces of fossilised bone protruding from a rocky hillside. The bones' large size and honeycomb-like structure indicated they belonged to a carnivorous dinosaur.

India's pharmaceutical giant Cipla and consumer goods conglomerate Godrej have been recognised by Fortune magazine in a list of global firms changing the world for the good and having a positive social impact through their activities.
Cipla is ranked 46th in the list of 50 followed by Godrej on the 48th spot, the only Indian companies in the list.
The Fortune 2016 'Change the World' list recognises companies that have had a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy.
The list has been topped by British pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline and includes Swiss food products major Nestle (5), India-born Ajay Banga-led Mastercard (7), US retail giant Walmart (15), China's ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing (30), India-born Indra Nooyi-led PepsiCo (38), Dutch beverages giant Heineken (43) and American motor company Tesla (50).

Wrestler Narsingh Yadav's hopes of participating in the Rio Olympics have been dashed as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has denied him permission to take part and handed him a four-year doping ban. Narsingh was scheduled to take on Frenchman Zelimkhan Khadjiev in the 74 kg weight class qualification round today.
According to news agency PTI, CAS has denied Narsingh permission to take part in the Rio Games and banned him for four-years. CAS was hearing into the World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA's appeal against the clean chit given to Narsingh by the National Anti-Doping Agency NADA, in a dope scandal.
Narsingh tested positive for a banned steroid following a dope test on 25 June by NADA, but it cleared him of all the doping charges on 1 August.
IAF makes history as first Sukhoi fighter aircraft lands in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Indian Air Force on Saturday wrote a new chapter in India’s defence history when a Sukhoi fighter aircraft, the most powerful warship available with it, made its first touchdown in Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, a state that not only shares 1090 km of international boundary with China but also finds the neighbouring country staking its claim over it.
The Sukhoi aircraft’s landing also marked the ceremonial inauguration of the upgraded and renovated Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Pasighat, the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh, by union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju, in the presence of Air Marshal C Hari Kumar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command.

Arthur Hiller, who received an Oscar nomination for directing the blockbuster romantic tragedy “Love Story”. He was 92.
The Canadian-born, dauntingly prolific Mr. Hiller ascended during the era of live television, and his versatility and workmanlike skill brought him a great deal of Hollywood work in TV and then film.
IIT-Kanpur Adopts Villages Under Namami Gange.
IT-Kanpur has adopted 5 villages under the Namami Gange programme and will use its expertise to restrict the flow of sewage into the river.
The task will be undertaken by the institute's civil engineering department.
The five villages adopted by the institute are Ramel Nagar, Khoyra Katree, Pratapur, Hari Hindpur, and Katri Ladhva Khera.
Under the initiative, IIT-Kanpur will ensure sewage water is not disposed of in the river, and also keep a check on quality of drinking water and sanitation.

Hindi scholar and writer Sunita Jain was awarded the prestigious 25th Vyas Samman 2015 for her poetry collection "Kshama".
West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi conferred the award on the scholar.
The award instituted by the K K Birla Foundation carries a cash prize of Rs 2.50 lakh. It is given annually to outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen.
